Telematics
Telematics devices are modems installed in vehicles that continuously transmit GPS position, engine diagnostics, and sensor data to a telematics provider's cloud platform. Mative Cloud Fleet Management connects to these providers to ingest that data in real time.
Device Discovery
After saving a telematics integration, discover the devices registered on that provider account:
- Open the telematics record
- Click the Devices tab
- Click Discover Devices — the system fetches all registered hardware
- Link each discovered device to the corresponding vehicle in your fleet
Data Flow
Once connected, data flows continuously from the provider to Mative Cloud Fleet Management:

Data Sync Frequencies
| Scenario | Update Interval |
|---|---|
| Urban delivery (high-frequency) | Every 5–30 seconds |
| Highway transport (standard) | Every 60 seconds |
| Parked mode (stationary vehicle) | Every 5–10 minutes |
Sync frequency is determined by the telematics provider configuration and the vehicle's movement state.
OBD-II Data
Telematics devices connected via the OBD-II port can provide:
- Engine RPM
- Fuel level
- Engine hours
- Coolant temperature
- Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Battery voltage
- Odometer reading
OBD-II data is stored as DeviceEvent records and can trigger automatic Issues when fault codes are detected.
Alerts
Configure alert rules to automatically create Issues or send notifications when:
- Vehicle exceeds a speed threshold
- Engine fault code is detected
- Battery voltage drops below a threshold
- Device goes offline for more than the expected interval
